📚 Book Summary:
This week’s book is “Wealthy & Well-Known” by Rory & AJ Vaden.
Rory & AJ Vaden are the founders of Brand Builders Group– a personal brand strategy firm that has helped thousands of people start, grow, and monetize their personal brand.
They’ve built the company to 8-figures and have helped many of the world’s biggest influencers including as Lewis Howes, Ed Mylett, and Amy Porterfield.
If you want to become wealthy and well-known online, this book will give you a roadmap to do just that.
Here are 3 lessons from it:
📖
1) It Does You No Good To Be The “World’s Best-Kept Secret”
In order for someone to do business with you, they first have to know you exist.
If you’re an amazing lawyer, therapist, or plumber, but no one knows about you, you’re doing a disservice to both your business and the people you could be helping.
In today’s world, a person’s reach is more important than their results. Love it or hate it, marketing matters.
As AJ Vaden writes:
“I know way too many incredible individuals with life-changing products and services who feel like they are losing…We live in a world where, unfortunately, the best idea doesn’t win. The best marketer wins.”
Now you might be thinking that personal brands don’t matter, and having a large following on social media is silly, but data says otherwise.
A national research study found that:
63% of people are more likely to buy from you if you have an established personal brand.
74% of people say they are more likely to trust someone who has an established personal brand.
82% of people agree that companies are more influential if their founder or executives have a personal brand.
So if you want to make more money, recruit better employees, or close more deals, it helps to have a personal brand.
📖
2) The #1 Mistake People Make
When it comes to building a personal brand, most people think they have to do a million different things on a million different platforms.
But that’s a mistake.
The easiest and best way to build a personal brand is to find one thing you can do as well, or better, than anyone else in the world, and do it again and again to the point where everyone notices you.
If you look at any famous individual, you can trace back their stardom to becoming world-class at one thing.
For example, Dwayne Johnson is a global movie star with a tequila brand, an energy drink company, and a clothing line.
But he became famous during his pro wrestling career (that’s where his nickname “The Rock” came from).
Or look at Gary Vaynerchuk. He’s one of the most popular social media strategists, authors, and businessmen in the world today.
But he first became famous for being an expert on wine and sharing videos on his channel called WineLibrary where he’s shared over 1,000 videos about wine.
This rule also applies to companies, just look at Amazon.com.
Today, they sell everything from apples to TVs. But in the beginning, they were known for selling only one thing: books.
"People who have become famous first became famous for one, and only one thing. Then later, once they broke through the wall, they started expanding into other things,” writes Vaden.
If you want to become well-known, just pick one topic, one audience, and one platform.
📖
3) Quick Tips to Build Your Personal Brand
If you want to build a personal brand, you need to be personal.
One of the best tips Vaden shares in the book is to look back on all the difficult challenges in your life and share how you overcame them.
If you only share the highlight reels of your life, people will think you’re bragging, putting up a facade, or just unrelatable.
But if you share the embarrassing or low points of your life, and how you survived them, people will relate and resonate with your story.
“Do not be afraid to share the challenges, shortcomings, failures, or any other low points you have experienced along the way. People find connection in the valley as much as, if not more than, they do on the mountaintop,” writes Vaden.
Another excellent tip to get personal is to think about one person before you create a piece of content.
For example, before writing a blog post, Rory Vaden will write the name of a person he knows in real life at the top of the page.
It sounds counterintuitive, but when you write or talk directly to someone, your content is more likely to resonate with a lot of people. Whereas if you try to talk to everyone, your content likely won’t resonate with anyone.
✅ Actionable Advice
1) If you want to make more money or grow your business in 2025, it helps a lot to have a personal brand.
2) The best way to build a personal brand is to pick one topic to talk about, to one audience, on one platform.
After you become famous, then you can expand to doing other things.
3) If you want to build a personal brand, you need to be more personal:
Share the challenges, failures, and other low points in your life that you had to overcome.
Before you create a piece of content, think of a specific person in your mind and talk directly to them.
