📚 Book Summary:
This week's book is “How to Live an Extraordinary Life” by Anthony Pompliano.
Anthony served in the U.S. Army, led a growth team at Facebook, built one of the largest independent financial media companies, and has invested in 200+ companies.
In this book, he shares 65 short lessons on how to succeed in business, have great relationships, do well with money, and live a healthier and happier life.
Here are 3 lessons from the book:
📖
1) Have a Bias for Action
If you want to stand out and be successful, you need to have a bias for action.
The world is filled with people who have grand dreams and audacious plans. They talk about all the amazing things they will accomplish one day, but don’t take any steps to make those dreams a reality.
It’s easy to dream and plan all day. You never have to risk reality smacking you in the face to tell you that you are wrong.
But without action, there is no progress.
“Over the years, I have studied hundreds of successful people across different industries. They all share one common trait–the courage to act quickly and decisively,” writes Pompliano.
Every company wants someone on their team that gets things done.
You don’t have to be the smartest person or the most experienced, but if you can be the person that everyone relies on to get things done, you’ll have a long and lucrative career.
For instance, I stumbled upon a recent post where an investor talks about how she listed a job and 500+ people applied.
Who got the job?
A guy who took action, acted like the job was already his, and outworked everyone.
That’s how you stand out and succeed.
📖
2) If You Want Something, ASK For It
This is a lesson I see over and over again throughout books (such as lesson #2 in “Million Dollar Weekend”).
Too many people are scared to ask for what they want.
But if you never ask, chances are you won’t get it.
Anthony shares a few examples of how asking has paid off in his life.
When he was negotiating his salary at a big company early in his career, he asked the recruiter if the company could give him money to cover the cost of moving cross-country.
The recruiter said they didn’t think it was possible, but Anthony insisted that it didn’t hurt to ask.
Two days later, the company agreed and gave him a $10,000 stipend to pay for the move.
But this lesson doesn’t just apply to money, it applies to relationships as well.
When Anthony first met his now-wife at a coffee shop, he really enjoyed their conversation. He wanted to see her again but she mentioned that she would be out of town for the weekend.
So, he asked her if she was free to go to dinner later that same day. She said yes.
Fast-forward to today, they’re happily married and have two kids together.
📖
3) Go For A Daily Walk Outside
This is another lesson I see time and time again in books (see lesson #1 in “Good Energy”).
Not only are there a lot of health benefits to walking (lower risk of dementia, diabetes, etc.), it’s a great way of brainstorming new ideas.
This secret has been known for centuries by many successful entrepreneurs, investors, and thinkers.
Some of the most famous people who had a habit of walking include Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Aristotle, Socrates, Immanuel Kant, Friedrich Nietzsche, Henry David Thoreau, and Virginia Woolf.
Not a bad group to emulate.
So the next time you’re facing a decision or aren’t feeling creative, try going for a walk.
✅ Actionable Advice:
1) Don’t wait, have a bias for action.
2) If you want something in life, ask for it. You’ll be surprised how many times you get it.
3) Set a goal to go for a walk outside every day.
💎 Weekly Gem:
Product: Reading Pillow
If you read books, you NEED to get a Reading Pillow.
It holds and elevates your book which makes reading easier and more comfortable for your neck.
I read for 3 hours and had no aches or pains afterward. It also has a side pocket to hold your highlighters, pens, etc.
The pillow also works great as a mini-desk for your laptop.
