A&B–Monthly Recap (Jan '20)
Hi everyone, here is your monthly Alex & Books recap:
Personal Favorite:
How To Fight A Hydra by Josh Kaufman
This book tells the fable of a young man on a quest to defeat a deadly hydra (hydra is a metaphor for a difficult project). As soon as you cut one head off (solve a problem) two more appear.
The book is short (~100 pages), but has a deep message: Face your fears and pursue your ambitions.
Quote from the
:
"I am afraid. That is not a reason to avoid the beast. Courage means being afraid and acting anyway. I leave at dawn."
Book Recommendations:
Psychology or sports science: The Alter Ego Effect by Todd Herman
Reading or C.S. Lewis: The Reading Life by C.S. Lewis
Philosophy: As A Man Thinketh by James Allen
Highlight of the month: Book Meme Goes Viral!
My Dolly Parton challenge picture became my most popular post on Instagram (3.8K+ likes)!
Personal Updates:
Quote of the Month:
"We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret."– The Alter Ego Effect
Tweet of the Month:
"A really good book costs $10 or $20 and can change your life in a meaningful way. I always spent money on books, I never viewed it as an expense, that's an investment to me."
