Alex & Books #63
Hey everyone,I spent this week promoting my book Learn To Love Reading.I'm happy to share that it hit #1 New Release in two categories and #2 Bestseller in the "Books & Reading" category. It's a surreal feeling to see and hold something in your hands that took you months to create. Although it took a lot of work, I believe part of my purpose in life is to write books that inspire people to read and become better versions of themselves so if this inspires even a handful of people to read more books, I'll consider it a success.Alright, let's dive into this week's newsletter.
📚 Book Lessons:This week's book is Learn To Love Reading by Alex Wieckowski (yes I have a real last name haha). It contains 365 quotes about the value and importance of reading from successful people in all areas of life (philosophers, entrepreneurs, artists, writers, investors, scientists, etc). Although this is a quote book, I did sneak a few reading tips into it. Here are 3 of them:1) Read For 15 Minutes Every Day"Resolve to edge in a little reading every day, if it is but a single sentence. If you gain 15 minutes a day, it will make itself felt at the end of the year." – Horace MannSet a goal to read every day. Ideally, it would be great to read for 15 minutes or more, but if you're having a busy day, view reading for even one minute as a win. The goal here is to achieve consistency, not intensity. If you read for 15 minutes every day for a year, you'll have read for 91.25 hours or about 2) Find Books That You Can Apply ASAP "Read books that are relevant to what you want to achieve and reading will never seem boring." –James Clear If you're reading a book that's relevant to your situation and has lessons you can apply to improve your life, you'll be much more engaged and interested in it.So, look for books that you can apply immediately to your life or in the near future and you'll find the time and energy to read many more books. 3) Don't Feel Bad Spending Money On Books"I always spent money on books, I never viewed it as an expense, that's an investment to me." –Naval RavikantIf you feel bad about spending $15 or $30 on a book, don't.Books are an investment. Some authors spend decades researching a single topic and then package everything they learned into a neat little book. By buying and reading their book, you have the opportunity to learn in just a few hours what took them years to discover. Not to mention that a single book can transform your life and change your path forever. Seriously, books are an incredible investment and you should view them as such.
✅ Actionable Advice:
1) Set a goal to read for 15 minutes every day:
You want to build a reading habit before you try to optimize.
Read for 15 minutes in the morning before work, during lunch, or before going to bed.
2) Read it when you need it:
Find and read books that you can apply immediately or in the near future.
If you read books that are applicable to your situation, you'll be more interested and engaged with the book.
3) Buy more books:
Books are an investment, not an expense.
For $15, you can learn in 5 hours what took someone 5 years of research to discover.
Even if a new book costs $30, that's a bargain deal since it has the potential to change your life forever.
