Alex & Books #3

Hey friends,

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. It's a crisp day here in NYC that feels like the first day of Fall. Last week's newsletter got an open rate of 37% (my highest so far). Glad to see people are enjoying the new format. Side note: Elon Musk liked my tweet so we're basically best friends now (scroll down for more).Alright enough about that, let's dive in!

Podcast Update:No new podcast this week...BUTIf you want to something good to listen to, here are my three most popular episodes:

You can also watch the podcasts on YouTube here.

      Recent Reads:

I currently reading The Almanack of Naval Ravikant: A Guide to Wealth and Happiness by Eric Jorgenson. It's a compilation of lessons and advice from Naval Ravikant (founder of AngelList, successful investor, and a modern-day philosopher). Here are a few reading lessons from the book:1) The Best Books Are Ones You Enjoy Reading"Just like the best workout for you is one you’re excited enough to do every day, I would say for books...the best ones to read are the ones you’re excited about reading all the time."2) Drop Boring Books "If it doesn’t grab my attention within the first chapter in a meaningful, positive way, I’ll either drop the book or skip ahead a few chapters.""I don’t believe in delayed gratification when there are an infinite number of books out there to read. There are so many great books."3) It's Okay To Skim & Skip"If it’s not interesting, I’ll just start flipping ahead, skimming, or speed reading." Actionable Advice: Before you can optimize your reading habit, you must first develop a reading habit. The best way to develop a reading habit is by reading books you enjoy (when reading is fun you'll want to do it more often). It's okay to drop a boring book. Not every book will be a match. It's also okay to skip or speed read to get to the interesting parts of a book. (Note: this is more for nonfiction books).PS: You can get a free digital copy of Naval's book here.

Weekly Quote:"The genuine love for reading itself, when cultivated, is a superpower." –Naval Ravikant

          Photo of the Week:

          I

a quote from Elon Musk on Twitter earlier this week and to my surprise, Elon liked it. The tweet ended up getting 3,000+ likes and 350+ retweets.

However, there's a much bigger lesson here. I've found that authors, CEOs, billionaires, and other successful individuals, spend more time on Twitter than any other social media site. If you want to connect with people you admire, I'd say Twitter is your best bet.

I just hit 11,000 followers on

and the connections I've made on there have been incredible. Stay tuned for a blog post about how to grow your following.

Thank you for your support everyone, I'll see you next week!Read on,Alex W.
