Alex & Books #27

Hey friends,

Christmas came early this week, I got my copy of Jordan Peterson's new book and have been loving it. Dr. Peterson's first book changed my life (more details below) so I'm super excited to read Beyond Order. Another book I've been enjoying is The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday. Here's a thread with 6 valuable lessons I learned from the book so far.

Alright, let's dive into this week's newsletter.

    📚 Book Lessons:

This week I finished The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy. It's a beautiful book–both in terms of its illustrations and message. The book tells an uplifting story about the friendship between the four protagonists. The shared adventures and important conversations between the four friends are full of life lessons that readers of all ages will enjoy. Here are 3 lessons from the book: 1) Be Less Afraid Fear prevents you from achieving more in life.Imagine who you could be if you were less afraid. When you're old, you'll regret listening to your fears instead of listening to your dreams.2) It's Okay To Ask For HelpAsking for help doesn't mean you're giving up.It means you're refusing to give up.It takes bravery to ask for help.

    3) Keep Going

There will be storms and dark days. But they won't last forever.Get up and keep going.PS: If you'd like to see some of the beautiful illustrations from the book, check out this thread.

      ✅ Actionable Advice:

      1) Be less afraid

      • Think of something you want to do but where fear is holding you back. Then, decide to ignore fear for the day and instead, listen to your dreams.

      2) Ask for help

      • If you're having trouble on a project or are facing a problem in your personal life, seek out advice or help from someone you trust and admire.

      3) Keep calm and carry on

      • If you're going through a tough situation or hard times, realize that these bad days won't last forever. Pick yourself up and keep going.

        🎧  Podcast Update:

I've been taking my favorite lessons from the podcast and turning them into clips on YouTube. Here are two new clips:

⭐️  Weekly Quote:Repeat after me:• Not every book will be a match for me.• I won't force myself to finish a book I'm not enjoying.• If the book I'm reading is not interesting, I will put it down and start a new one.• It's better to quit books than to quit reading altogether.(share here)

              Jordan Peterson changed my life.

              After reading

              12 Rules for Life

, I decided to pursue what is meaningful and not what is expedient (Rule 7). I quit video games, sold my Xbox, and used the money to buy a VIP ticket to meet Dr. Peterson.

Towards the end of the event, I asked him out of the 100+ books he recommends on his website, which 5 had the biggest influence on him.
