đ Book Summary:
This week's book is âSo Good They Call You A Fakeâ by Joshua Lisec.
Joshua is one of the worldâs best ghostwriters. Heâs written 80+ books for CEOs, celebrities, and entrepreneurs. This is a great book for authors and aspiring authors alike.
Here are 3 key lessons from the book:
đ
1) Being Called Fake Is A Compliment
Joshua argues that if youâve been called a fake or if you have haters, youâre on the right path.
If you look at the popular trick shot channel Dude Perfect, theyâre constantly posting once-in-a-lifetime videos that go viral.
But since so many people have a hard time believing their trick shots are real, viewers are consistently commenting on how their videos use special effects, illusions, or other tactics to fake their videos (all of this is untrue btw).
The creators, however, love the hate since it generates even more publicity and hits on their videos.
And if you look at history, this lesson is clearâpeople still think the pyramids were built by aliens or that the moon landing was fake.
âHistoryâs masters have all faced accusations of faking, forging, and defrauding. If you have people calling you a fake, that means youâre doing it right,â writes Joshua.

2) If You Want To Make More Money, Get More Jobs Done
People buy things because they have a job they need to get done. And the more jobs you get done, the more you can charge.
For instance, look at the prices at a local car wash. It's probably around $15 for a wash, $30 for a wash + vacuum, and $45 for a wash + vacuum + wax.
The more you can do for the customer, the more you can charge them.
When Joshua first started working as a ghostwriter, he charged around $5,000 for a manuscript.
Today, he can charge $100,000 because heâll ghostwrite the book, design the cover, format it, and publish it. He also has offers costing $1,000,000+ because heâll also turn the authorâs book into a course, design a marketing funnel, and do all the work for the author.
So if you have a service, ask yourself what problems do your customers have and what jobs can you help them complete.
đ
3) The Real Way Authors Make Money From Books
This may surprise you but the majority of authors donât make a ton of money from writing books.
If an author self-publishes a book they might make $3-5 per copy, but if they go the traditional publishing route, theyâll make $1-3 per copy. And since the average book sells around 300 copies a year, thatâs only $300-1,500 in earnings.
So how do authors make money?
They use their book as a professional business card to direct readers toward their video courses, masterclasses, one-on-one consulting, and paid speaking gigs.
Look at it this way:
Reader A buys the authorâs book for $20 and then their course for $100.
Reader B buys the authorâs book for $20 and then a consulting call for $1,000.
Reader C buys the authorâs book for $20 and then a paid speaking gig for their company for $10,000.
All of a sudden, the author has made $11,000+ from 3 readers.
Thatâs how authors actually make money from their books.
âIf you want to be successful in business, and if you want to accelerate your authority, you need a bookâŚEverything hard about business gets easier when you have a book,â writes Joshua.
â Actionable Advice:
1) View having haters as a positive:
As the quote goes âYou will never be criticized by someone who is doing more than you. You will only be criticized by someone doing less.â
2) Think about what other jobs you can help your customers complete and have multiple offers for them:
Create multiple offers for your services:
Have a $100 offer, $1,000 offer, and $10,000+ offer.
3) A few of my favorite quotes from the book:
đ Reading Lesson:
Last week I asked people to share their biggest reading obstacle and one of the most common questions was âHow do I find the energy to read after a long day?â
Here are 3 solutions:
Take time to recharge first: Take a 15 or 20-minute nap to recharge your brain and have some food to refuel your body before reading.
Energize with exercise: If you felt like you werenât productive or had a boring day, go for a walk or run while listening to an audiobook.
Wind down your day by reading: If you had a long day, decompress by taking a hot shower and then reading a book before going to sleep. It will help you relax and get you ready for a good nightâs rest.
Hope this helps!
