📚 Book Summary:
Here are 3 awesome books about books, vote on which one you’d like me to summarize below:
📖
1) “How To Read A Book” by Mortimer Adler
This is the classic book about books.
It teaches readers how to improve their reading comprehension, judge a book by its cover, read books in different genres, and much more.
It was last updated in 1972, so it is quite outdated. It doesn’t cover ebooks, audiobooks, or modern reading, but it’s still a handy guide to learning how to become a better reader.
It’s quite long, but you’ll get 80% of the value from the book just by reading the first 100 pages.
📖
2) “I’d Rather Be Reading” by Anne Bogel
This book is a memoir of Anne Bogel’s reading life (she’s one of the biggest book bloggers and podcasters in the world).
Throughout the book, she shares how books changed her life as well as practical tips that have helped her become a better reader.
Think of this book as a love letter to reading. It’s a short (only 160 pages) and delightful read for all bibliophiles.
📖
3) “10 Days to Faster Reading” by Abby Marks-Beale
I’ve read a ton of books about speed reading, and this is the best one I’ve come across.
It’s incredibly actionable and relatively short (only around 200 pages).
Each chapter has several examples and exercises so you can practice improving your reading speed.
That said, speed reading isn’t the ultimate hack you’re looking for. The faster you read, the less you’ll comprehend and retain from the books you read. It also makes reading less enjoyable.
However, if you don’t believe me and want to give speed reading a try, this is a helpful guide.
